Do Hips Go Back to Normal After Giving Birth?

The fact that your hips spread while pregnant to accommodate childbirth is quite the phenomenon. Your pelvis also makes room for the birthing process which may or may not include a vaginal delivery.

With the right corset or girdle, you’ll be able to narrow the distance between your hips and go back to looking like yourself once again.

As you work to lose the pregnancy weight, you’ll feel your hips and lower back being supported by the undergarment. Binding your hips in the eight weeks after giving birth helps pelvic joints go back to where they were prior to your pregnancy. That way, you won’t feel them being as spread-out as before.

How Long Does It Take for Hormones to Settle After Birth?

A surge of hormones is something to be expected when pregnant. Don’t be concerned if your mood swings all over the place. It’s incredibly normal to feel the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.

You will get back to your normal self soon. Even if you don’t, you’ll start to feel better about your situation. If your feelings of sadness or depression don’t go away, it’s time to speak to a licensed therapist who can help you on a clinical level. Your issue is far more complicated than just needing some extra rest or help around the house.

Your hormones will eventually settle and you’ll feel more at ease in your body. Don’t be surprised if there is a transitional period from giving birth to getting back to your pre-pregnancy self. You’ve got time, and with Bellefit, you’ve got tools! Our postpartum girdles have helped women from around the world feel more confident about their bodies after delivering.

Should I Wear a Girdle After Giving Birth?

As a new mother, you likely have questions about what you can and cannot do after giving birth. There will be a period of rest and recovery following the birthing process that you’ll be recommended to take. So, how do you know if a postpartum girdle is right for you or not?

Among the many benefits that comes with wearing a postpartum girdle is how well it keeps things in place. With pregnancy weight being an issue for many women who have just given birth, a postpartum girdle helps compress the abdomen, giving you a seamless look that can be worn under dresses, skinny jeans, and sweatpants. It also provides extra support for the lower back which has a tendency to hurt whenever weight is gained.

Having a garment that keeps everything in place makes it easier for you to exhibit good posture and prevent muscle strain. That means that you won’t risk injuring yourself while you work to lose the extra weight you gained while pregnant.Bellefit products are designed to maximize comfort while providing support in all the right places. We offer a variety of styles of girdles to choose from, too, making it easy to find one that you love wearing.

When can I start wearing a postpartum girdle?

We recommend that you begin wearing your girdle the day that you are discharged from the hospital. This is typically 3-5 days after delivering your baby. We also advise you to consult with your Doctor since every pregnancy and recovery is unique.

When can I start wearing a postpartum girdle?

A postpartum girdle is a compression garment that a mother wears tightly around the belly following the delivery of her baby. The garment should fit quite snugly around the abdomen to maximize the benefits of compression, such as increasing blood flow, improve posture, and support the abdominal muscles — but it shouldn't be so tight that it restricts movement and breathing.

How to wear a postpartum girdle?

Depending on style girdle you have, either unhook/unzip the front or side closure and hook the groin flap closure. Sit down on the edge of your bed & step into the girdle one foot at a time. Stand to pull up girdle as far as you can. Lie on your back to fasten the hooks/zipper on front closure. Stand up, center the front panel and adjust until comfortable.

Is it too late to wear a postpartum girdle?

It's optimal to begin wearing Bellefit right after birth, however you will still see results if you begin to wear your girdle any time during the first year after delivery.

What size postpartum girdle should I buy?

To accurately choose your postpartum girdle size, you need to consider your pregnancy weight gain and hip size, between other measurements.

Since these measurements change as your due date approaches, we strongly suggest choosing your postpartum size close to your due date (at least at your 36th weeks of pregnancy if you’re expecting a full-term pregnancy) or at least 2-3 weeks prior to your due date.

How long should I wear a postpartum corset for?

To achieve the best results, wear your Bellefit continuously (12-24 hrs) during your daily activities for a minimum period of one week.

After the initial week you may take it off during the night and continue to wear your garment for the remaining 120 days, or as long as you feel comfortable.

Can I wear a postpartum corset while sleeping?

Yes you can, many moms like to wear the Bellefit while sleeping, especially after a c-section to help get out of bed easier and move around. Also check with your doctor before to make sure its right for you.

Does a corset help with Diastasis Recti?

Bellefit Girdles are excellent for support and therapy when diagnosed with Diastasis Recti. Bellefit provides compression that supports your abdomen which allows you to engage your abdominal muscles and perform your daily activities while preventing any further damage.

Can I Wear My Bellefit Girdle to Exercise?

Yes, you can wear your Bellefit during exercise, however, it truly depends on your personal preference and comfort.
Some women like to take it off to exercise and then put it back on after exercising/showering so there is no downtime as a result of having to hand wash and dry the garment.

Sometimes removing the garment to exercise for 30 minutes results in less downtime versus having to wait 2-3 hours for the typical drying time.
Remember not to machine wash or dry your Bellefit girdle.

Can I Wear My Own Panties and Sanitary Pads with the Girdle?

Yes. Bellefit Girdles are designed with an easy-access flap closure in the groin area. The groin closure has adjustable hooks and allows you to easily change your sanitary pads, check on your incision (for C-Section recoveries) and use the restroom without removing your girdle.

Always wear your own panties for maximum comfort and to allow you to wear sanitary pads properly.
For convenience, the flap closure is pulled forward between your legs towards the front of your crotch where you can hook it closed, adjust and easily unhook when needed.

Does Bellefit Shrink Hips?

Bellefit’s design is similar to a bodysuit – minus the bust and arms of course.
You step into it and pull it on, adjust it so the top is pulled right up under your bra, and fasten it with hook-and-eye closures.
Bellefit provides 360° compression to your torso and its benefits are more focused on:

  • Abdominal support
  • Posture improvement
  • Lymphatic drainage
  • Spinal realignment

C-section incision healing and many other advantages.
We have heard that women like to use Bellefit for its ability to provide support and recover their post baby body as they get back to their pre-pregnancy jean size and body weight. In addition, they combine it with other products in the market that target direct hip compression.

How Does a Bellefit Girdle work?

Bellefit compression girdles and corsets work by drawing in stretched abdominal muscles providing a 360° support structure around the torso, thus, reducing strain on ligaments and joints in the lower back, pelvis, and buttocks. Reducing stress in these areas enhances your body’s ability to return to its pre-pregnancy alignment, shape and lose the post baby tummy. As shifted and constrained organs return to their pre-pregnancy locations during the first few weeks after c-section or natural birth, Bellefit® girdles hold you in place allowing movement with complete confidence.

We suggest that you measure after at the 36th week of your pregnancy.
This is when you can get the most accurate measurement and size suggestion while you are still pregnant.

We recommend that you begin wearing your girdle the day that you are discharged from the hospital. This is typically 3-5 days after delivering your baby. We also advise you to consult with your Doctor since every pregnancy and recovery is unique.

To achieve the best results, wear your Bellefit continuously (12-24 hrs) during your daily activities for a minimum period of one week.
After the initial week you may take it off during the night and continue to wear your garment for the remaining 120 days, or as long as you feel comfortable.

How Often and for How Long Should I Wear It?

To achieve the best results, wear your Bellefit continuously (12-24 hrs) during your daily activities for a minimum period of one week.
After the initial week you may take it off during the night and continue to wear your garment for the remaining 120 days, or as long as you feel comfortable.

How Tight Should the Girdle feel?

Bellefit girdles should give you firm compression so you feel pulled together and supported.

If you find it uncomfortable to take a deep breath, this may be an indication that you are in a size that you are not quite ready for.

Wearing a girdle that is too small for you may be very uncomfortable and could cause damage to the girdle’s structure.

It’s Been Weeks/Months since I Gave Birth. Is It Too Late to Wear a Bellefit Girdle?

It’s optimal to begin wearing Bellefit right after birth, however still present after childbirth for up to 6 months are hormones secreted during pregnancy. These hormones, estrogen, progesterone and relaxin loosen the abdominal muscles, the pelvic structure and supporting ligaments and joints.

Bellefit works together with your natural process of recovery. The girdles act to retract the body by drawing in stretched muscles and provides medical-grade compression to your abdominal area.

We have heard great testimonies from Moms that began using Bellefit up to 8-10 months postpartum and were able to benefit greatly from its use.

How to Measure Your Hips While Pregnant

I Have Had a Significant Weight Gain during My Pregnancy, What is My Best Option?

If this is your case then we recommend getting 2 girdles, one larger for the initial stages of your recovery, and a smaller one after you have dropped one size in order to complete the childbirth recovery process.

I Need Help to Figure out my Sizing

The two most important measurements to determine your size are:

  • Your Hip Contour
  • Your jean size before this pregnancy.
  • Click HERE To use the Bellefit Sizing Chart.

If you are unable to determine your size and need further assistance, answer the questions below and email your answers to [email protected]
You can also complete the following form: Sizing Help Form

  • What is your current hip measurement.
  • What is your height?
  • What is your current weight
  • What was your weight before this pregnancy?
  • What was your jean size before this pregnancy?
  • Have you gained close to or more than 33 Lb during this pregnancy?
  • Have you reached 36 weeks of pregnancy?
  • When is your due date?
  • What is your body shape?

When Should I Measure Myself?

We suggest that you measure any time after week 30. Some women choose to wait until the 36th week of their pregnancy.

When Should I purchase a second girdle?

We recommend that if you gained close to or more than 33 Lb during your pregnancy, you will most likely need a second girdle.
Women in this category will require 2 sizes in order to receive continuous abdominal compression throughout the childbirth recovery process.

Some women choose to purchase two girdles because they want the flexibility of having more than one style available to wear, and in many cases women also like to have a second girdle to use while washing. During weeks 1-3 after childbirth, the larger-sized girdle is used to provide immediate postpartum compression before going down one size to complete the recovery process.

Why isn’t the Pull-up Girdle Available in Size XS?

Bellefit does not manufacture a size XS in the girdle Pull-up since the hip contour of an X-Small woman is bigger than the diameter of the girdle and it would stretch the fabric to the point of damage within just a few uses.

Can I use a Girdle Pull-up after a C-Section?

The Girdle Pull-up is the only girdle not recommended for recovery after of a c-section.
The Pull-up does not have any hooks or zippers besides the hook and eye closures on the crotch area and is a better option for women that are having a vaginal birth and would like this basic and efficient design.
If you are having a c-section we recommend the Bellefit Corset or the Dual-Closure for your postpartum recovery.

I Dont Know if I Will Have a C-Section or Natural Birth. Which Bellefit Girdle Do I Choose?

All four Bellefit girdle designs provide the same benefits; the only difference is the closure method of the girdles. We recommend purchasing a Dual-Closure Girdle if your delivery method is uncertain. The Bellefit Corset is also recommended if your delivery method is uncertain.

What is the Difference between the EIGHT Bellefit Girdles?

All four styles of Bellefit Girdles offer the same great level of Medical-Grade compression and are designed with the medical-grade fabric panels.

The main difference will be the closure method which are explained below.

Dual-Closure Girdle:

The Bellefit Dual-Closure Girdle can be worn after a C-section or Natural birth. The Dual-closure girdle has 2 rows of hook-and-eye closures in the front and a lateral zipper. This girdle is preferred by women seeking the highest level of flexibility and adjustability throughout the postpartum recovery process.

Corset:

The Bellefit Corset gives you Medical-Grade Compression during Post Pregnancy recovery after natural or C-section childbirth. The Bellefit Corset has 2 rows of hook-and-eye closures in the front that can be adjusted so you can tighten your girdle when additional compression is needed.

Girdle with Zipper:

The Girdle with Zipper has a lateral zipper and is adjustable so you can tighten your girdle when additional compression is needed. This design is good for Moms that are planning a natural birth but a c-section is still possible. The C-Section Incision must’ve healed for this Girdle to be worn comfortably

Girdle Pull-up:

The Girdle Pull-up has a simple and traditional design with no closures, except for the groin area flap. This style is ideal for Moms that have had a vaginal childbirth and would like this basic and efficient design. The Pull-Up is not recommended for c-section recovery.

To determine the best size and style for you, please visit the Sizing Guide

What’s the difference between a Postpartum Girdle and an Abdominal Binder? Style is best for C-section?

Girdles:

  • Girdles provide all-around coverage of your core, rear-end and groin área to support your lower abdomen.
  • Girdles compress front-to-back and around the core to provide support of your groin and hold heavy flow pads in place.
  • Girdles must be worn with underwear. They are designed with a convenient access flap so you can use the restroom, change your pads, etc.
  • Girdles are designed to be easier for you to put on after giving birth.
  • Girdles can be worn day & night.

Binders:

  • Binders cover your mid-core. They are designed to reduce your waist and give you an hourglass effect.
  • Binders don’t support the postpartum lower abdomen area as well as Girdles.
  • Binders don’t support the c-section incision.
  • Bellefit Binders are made with triple-layered fabrics which makes them fit firmly around the waist.
  • Binders are not recommended to wear right after giving birth.
  • Binders are recommended for daytime use only.

Which Bellefit Style is best for C-section?

Both the Bellefit Dual-Closure Girdle and the Bellefit Corset are excellent for recovery after a C-section and accommodate both vertical and horizontal incisions.
These two styles are recommended due to their flexibility in closure methods and adjustability which make wearing a Girdle/Corset after a C-section safe and comfortable.

The Bellefit Girdle with Zipper is only recommended when your C-section incision is already completely healed.

Which Bellefit Style is best for Natural Birth?
